I’m proud of announcing officially that I’ve been chosen as a member of the Young Advisor Expert Group on Implementation of the Digital Agenda for Europe! I’ll work as Young Advisor to the Vice President of the Commission Neelie Kroes!
[…] The Young Advisors initiative was launched in 2011 at the request of Vice-President Neelie Kroes with the aim to achieve greater involvement of young people in discussions on the main policy issues related to the Digital Agenda for Europe. The Young Advisors have already met with VP Kroes on several occasions. They have been also invited on ad-hoc basis to provide inputs and participate in various DG CONNECT initiatives (e.g. Digital Agenda Assembly, Competitiveness week etc.).
For transparency reasons as well as with a view to provide a more structured framework for discussion and collaboration, the current group of Young Advisors is formalised into an informal expert group by also taking into account the rules of the Commission for establishing expert groups, An expert group “Young Advisors” will act as an informal communication channel between the Vice President and a group of talented and inspiring young people willing to contribute to the shaping and creation of our future digital society. It will also provide the Commission with a forum to bring the Young Advisors together in order to implement different activities by:
- Informing and advising the Vice President on different aspects relevant to the Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE) and the future of digital society from their perspective of being young people; this may include specific policy challenges for the youth constituency, e.g. unemployment, researcher brain-drain, the gap in young innovators etc.
- Contributing to DAE implementation and priorities by offering their views, notably with regard to aspects where there is a generational difference in perspectives and aspirations.
- Promoting the DAE in their own networks especially by using on-line communication and social media,
- Participating in various events related to the DAE initiative by bringing their own experience.
The Digital Agenda for Europe sets the overall framework under which the advisory role of YAG is carried out.
The YAG will also be invited, as appropriate, to give a youth perspective to the DG CONNECT’s work, whether directly for CONNECT or in consultative and advisory processes.
